When the engine was run for the first time a crack in the rear cylinder head became apparent. This had to be fusion gas welded. The head was then resurfaced afterwards to ensure that no distortion was present on the mating face.

After JD1490 was driven for the first time in June 2009 an old crack in the number 1 cylinder head opened up. This is now to be removed and sent away for welding (July 2009).
