With the cylinder head off it was time to remove the valves and check their condition

The first  inlet valve showed a build up of sticky deposits around the base of the stem

Number 4 inlet showed why it had been sticking

The valve seats are screwed into the iron head.  Number 4 exhaust seat was found to be loose and simply unscrewed using fingers.
