This photograph shows the exhaust seat insert. The tabs on the insert are means by which it may be tightend into the cylinder head. The inlet valve seats are similar, except that the tabs are ground off after fitting to improve gas flow.

A tool was made to enable the seat to be re-fitted and torqued up to 80 ft. lbs.

The exhaust valve seats were particularly recessed and unsuitable for re-fitting in their existing condition.

Fortunately I had  an old but superb precision valve re-facer made by the Wolf company many years ago
